Volunteers: Please help us spread the word about our new dynamic learning center. The center is located in the center of the Piedmont Triad on Frances Daily Court,on
the border of Guilford and Forsyth Counties, directly behind Magnolia Manor. This location makes it an excellent place to hold all types of meetings, conferences, trainings, events, etc.
Please share this brochure with civic and community leaders, or anyone who you feel might be interested.

Activities for Daisy Through
Junior Girl Scouts
The following are programs being
offered at The Learning Center.
Non-Girl Scouts may attend scheduled sessions for an additional $10 to
cover the cost of membership dues. To register, download the Council
Sponsored Event/Program Registration Form.
Note: troops/groups/individual
girls must register at least two weeks ahead of the classes they wish to
attend.
Older girls who would like to earn service or leadership hours by
assisting with these sessions for Daisies, Brownies, Juniors can contact
Sharon Wisell at 369-7426 or swisell@tarheeltriad.org.
We need lots of helping hands with our younger girl programs!
Daisy, Brownie & Junior girls: These
programs are for you!
The following programs have been planned for younger Girl Scouts.
Girls need to register two weeks in advance of the classes that they
want to attend. Class sizes are limited, so registrations are
accepted/confirmed on a first come basis.
Daisy classes run from 5-6:30 p.m. and cost $10 per girl. Brownie and
Junior classes run from 5-7 p.m. and cost $15 per girl. Registration
fees cover supplies, program consultants, and snacks.
Official recognitions (Petals, Try-Its, and Badges) are not provided but
can be bought in the Council Shop located at The Learning Center. To
register, go to our website, www.tarheeltriad.org, download and complete
the Council Sponsored Event/Program Registration Form. Address

Brownies and Juniors
When: Thursday, April 10
What: Join students from the University of North
Carolina-Greensboro Music Department and experience an interactive and
fun program. Activities will relate to the Making Music Try-It and the
Making Music and Music Fan Badges.
Daisies
When: Thursday, April 24
What: A special program presented by Win-Win Resolutions, Inc.
educators. Using puppets, theater instructors, and professional
counselors, the program focuses on multi cultural awareness, acceptance
of diversities, the impact of name calling and teasing, and increases
positive communication skills.

Daisies
When: Thursday, May 8
What: Courageous and Strong Petal- Girls will develop new
technology skills by using computers, and they will have fun in the
process!
Brownies
When: Thursday, May 15.
What: Girls will earn the Computer Smarts Try-It.

What: Girls will earn the Point, Click, and Go Computers Try-It.

When: Thursday, May 22 5-7 p.m.
What: Making Swaps Class. Brownies will earn the Hobbies Try-It.
Girls will get to make 12-15 swaps to take home in a swaps holder from
the Girl Scout Shop.

Older Girl
Programs – Spring 2008
(For Middle and High School Girls)

Tank Top Tote
Registration for this program has closed. Please contact Andrea Reavis
with questions concerning Older Girl programs.
Monday, May 12th, 7:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.
It's almost summer and you're going to need a tote for all your summer
adventures... from the beach to camp. This program will take one of your
tank tops and recycle it into a tote bag. Girls will need to bring a
tank top to this session.
Cost: $6/girl
Maximum: 30 girls

Fifth Grade Fest 2008: Hollywood Premier
The Fourth Annual Fifth Grade Fest will be held Friday, May 2, 2008
from 7:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m.
All fifth-grade girls are invited to come spend the
evening like a famous Hollywood starlet! You can walk the red carpet,
have the paparazzi snap your photo with your favorite celebrity and
score your very own “swag bag.” We’ll finish the evening with a special
movie screening at our own movie theater, complete with concession stand
for all your favorite movie treats. Come dressed as your favorite
celebrity, wear your red-carpet-ready ensemble, or come as you are!
Fifth Grade Fest 2008: Hollywood Premier is a time for you to celebrate
your graduation from 5th grade and elementary school and get excited
about the adventures that await you in 6th grade and middle school!
Fee: $5 for each 5th grade Girl Scout
attending.

Older Girl Programs - Fall
2008
(For Middle and High School Girls)
Mirror, Mirror
Monday, September 8, 7:00-8:30 p.m.
Monday, September 15, 7:00-8:30 p.m.
You are not your hair. You are not your feet. You are not your thighs.
You are not your looks. What you are is far more than the eye can see.
This two-part session is all about shedding beliefs about who you are
based on what other people tell you to be. It’s about discovering your
own unique beauty and the inner light that shines within you. We’ll work
on activities, learn about health and beauty information, take quizzes
and get tips from the new “Uniquely Me! Mirror, Mirror Guide for Girls
14-17.”
This program is specifically for girls in 9th, 10th, 11th & 12th grades.
Fee: $18/girl for 9/8 & 9/15 (Fee includes a copy of the “Uniquely Me!
Mirror, Mirror Guide.”)
Maximum: 30 girls
Shake It Like Shakira
Monday, September 29, 7:00-8:30 p.m.
You’ve seen pop star Shakira and her awesome dance moves. But did you
know that belly dancing is great exercise? You can burn calories without
even realizing it while having a lot of fun! This introductory lesson
will give you a taste of belly dancing.
Fee: $8/girl
Maximum: 30 girls

Monday, October 6, 7:00-8:30 p.m. at The Learning Center
Monday, October 13, 7:00-8:30 p.m. at The Learning Center
Saturday, October 18, 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. at Keyauwee Program Center
Tuesday, October 21, 7:30 p.m. at WXII Channel 12 News, Winston-Salem,
NC
Learn a few things about how movies, television and videos are created
including story boarding, Foley, ADR and what it takes to work in
television. Chat online with a professional from Blue Ridge Mountain
Sports about the company’s website. After learning all about digital
video cameras, become a videographer at the Dad & I weekend at Keyauwee.
Finish this special series with a tour of WXII Channel 12 News in
Winston-Salem.
Girls will have the opportunity to use digital video cameras made
available to the council through a DELL Foundation Equipping Youth
Grant. Girls must be able to attend all four days to participate in this
special program. Girls will be responsible for providing their own
transportation to and from each activity. This program completes all
requirements for the Audiovisual Production Interest Project.
Fee: $25/girl for 10/6, 10/13, 10/18 & 10/21
Maximum: 12 girls
The Food Connection
Monday, November 3, 7:00-8:30 p.m.
Monday, November 10, 7:00-8:30 p.m.
Monday, November 17, 7:00-8:30 p.m.
Cheeseburgers, milkshakes, potato chips … sound familiar? Even though
healthy options are becoming more common, many people still eat fast
food on the run. It’s not always easy to make healthy decisions, but
this program will give you the knowledge to do just that. Get some tips
and ideas from a healthy living professional who will arm you with the
tools and information you need to make the best decisions. Then we’ll
put your knowledge to the test, develop some healthy recipes and have a
tasting party. We’ll also conduct a discussion about the roles that
media and advertising play in defining our body image. As part of this
program, we’ll collect food items to be donated to a local food bank.
This program completes all requirements for The Food Connection Interest
Project.
Fee: $16/girl for 11/3, 11/10 & 11/17
Maximum: 30 girls
Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star
Monday, December 1, 7:00-8:30 p.m.
Monday, December 8, 7:00-8:30 p.m.
This two-part service program will give you the chance to create a
constellation map on the ceiling in the Girl Scout Learning Center.
We’ll also create a guided tour of our map which will be a great
resource for girls and troops across our council to use when they visit
the Learning Center. This program completes the Service Project
requirement from the Space Exploration Interest Project.
Fee: $6/girl for 12/1 & 12/8 (Cost will help cover the cost of materials
for our service project.
Maximum: 15 girls
To register, please complete and return a “Council Sponsored
Event/Registration Form,” along with program fees, to the council
office. All program fees MUST accompany registration forms.

The
OC (The Outdoor Club)
Where out is in!
Spring 2008
The OC is a great place for girls
seeking high adventure and lots of fun! We’ve got something for every
girl!
All girls across the council, ages 12 and up are invited to come join
the adventure with The OC. Adults, troop leaders and parents are welcome
to accompany their girls on The OC trips. Non-Girl Scout friends are
welcome to join The OC as well! Attendance at every trip is optional-
you can create your own adventure!
Check out the upcoming trips and skill sessions planned with The OC.
Details and information about each trip is listed below.
Our new skill sessions will be offered at The Learning Center and will
relate to that month’s trip. These skill sessions are a great way to get
geared up for The OC trips or just come and gain some new skills.
Attendance at each skill session is encouraged but not required for
girls attending trips with The OC.

The OC Outdoor Skills at Keyauwee
Friday, May 9- Saturday, May 10, 2008
Girls arrive at KPC Friday at 5:00 p.m. – Parents return to KPC
Saturday at 5:00 p.m.
Come out for this special “girls-only” camping weekend and refine
your skills while enjoying the out-of-doors at Keyauwee Program
Center. We’ll work on some requirements from Interest Projects such
as Camping, Outdoor Survival, Orienteering and Wildlife. Girls will
learn about basic first aid & emergency preparedness, Leave No Trace
ethics, various methods to prepare meals while camping & yummy new
recipes, map & compass skills, orienteering, geocaching and what
types of wildlife you might encounter at Keyauwee. We’ll pitch our
own tents and experience Keyauwee in a whole new way!
Girls will prepare meals for themselves on Friday evening, Saturday
breakfast and Saturday lunch. Parents will have the honor of
sampling a dinner prepared by the girls on Saturday evening when
they return to pick up the girls.
Cost: $25/girl (Cost includes Friday dinner and all meals on
Saturday.) Minimum participants: 8
